Let Them See
Today I would like to talk to you about 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12. These verses really spoke to me as I was reading them. I would like to share with you what I feel the Holy Spirit shared with me about them.
Verse 11; Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power: Verse 12; That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in Him, according to the grace of our God and the LORD Jesus Christ.
When I read this, I think to myself, “How could God ever count me worthy?” However, verse 11 says, that our God would count you worthy of THIS CALLING. So what is This Calling? As we read on in verse 12, it tells us that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in Him.
That is His desire for all of us. That His name be glorified in us and us in Him. Revelation 4:11 says, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
Though none of us are worthy, and never could be worthy of all Jesus has done for us. (Romans 3:10 tells us, As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: ) We should still have a desire to strive to walk worthy. Colossians 1:10 says, That ye might walk worthy of the LORD unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
So what can we do to strive to be counted worthy? We should be walking in The Spirit rather than our own flesh. Read 2 Corinthians 10:3-4. 3; For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh. 4; (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Here Paul tells us that our flesh is weak, but we should not be fighting against our flesh. We can not fight on our own, not even against our own strong holds. That is a fight we can never win on our own. God’s weapons are ready and available to go to battle for us. We just need to seek out those weapons. That we may be found worthy of his calling and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power. His power, not our own power! Philippians 2:13 says For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
Some ways we can strive to walk worthy are by utilizing God’s weapons, to feed our spirit daily. We feed that spirit by walking closely with the Holy Spirit through prayer, reading God’s Word, and by having fellowship with other Christians. Read verse 11 again. Paul said that we pray always for you. It is so important to come together and lift one another up in prayer. Don’t ever take the fellowship with other Christians for granted. Especially by attending Church services. That is a great way to feed your spirit!
Now look at 2 Thessalonians 1:12. We all should want the name of Jesus Christ to be glorified in us. I have often joked about wishing I were invisible at times. I am awkward in crowds and am always second guessing things I say. Yet here I am, writing to you all. Trust me, I am writing to myself as much as I am writing to anyone else! As I said before, these verses spoke to me. I realized that I [do] want people to see me and hear me. Not me actually, but Christ in me. People shouldn’t wonder if you are one of His. They should be able to see it! So Let Them See, that they may want what you have!
