Get Back Up
Today I have a question for you. Where do you go when you mess things up? If we are honest, we would say that we have all messed up from time to time. I am sure we will continue to do so as long as we are carrying this flesh of ours around. I regret to say there have been times my answer to this question would have been that I ran away from The LORD, and all the help he had for me. I would get so discouraged in myself that I would feel too guilty to approach Him. That, my friend, is exactly the reaction the enemy is counting on from us! Do not allow him to win!
It is during times of discouragement in ourselves, we need to realize that we serve a God who loves us unconditionally. I feel at times, we have a harder time accepting God’s grace He gives to us more than we do accepting the grace He gives to others. Hebrews 4:16 says, Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. We all struggle and mess this thing up from time to time. Listen to what this verse is telling us. What will help us in our time of need? GRACE. Whose grace? God’s grace! How do we receive God’s grace? By coming boldly to the throne of grace. How do we approach the throne of grace? Through prayer. So approach Him. Boldly ask Him for His forgiveness and His Grace. Allow Him to give it to you! Accept it! That you can get past this, and move on to do whatever The LORD has for you to do. Satan would love nothing more than for this to cripple us and cause us to believe there is nothing more we can do for God. Do not listen to those lies the enemy is whispering to you. 1 Peter 5:8 says, Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Do not listen to Satan’s lies. Trust in the promises of God that He has given us in His Word. He promises that He will always be with us. Hebrews 13:5 says, Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. We may distance ourselves from Him in guilt or shame, but He is still right there with us, waiting on us to cry out to Him, that He might help us in our time of need as only He can.
If you read Psalms, you see that David cried out for help many times to the only God that is able. David kept that relationship with The Lord, and believed in His promises. David was a mighty warrior. However, he realized that he couldn’t clean up his messes himself. He knew who to call on. Do not try to do it on your own. Lamentations 3: 22-23 says, It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. Seek the Lord. He can and He will help us if we boldly approach His throne of grace and ask for it.
I am going to leave you with my favorite Psalm of David’s that I have gone to when I mess things up. So many times in fact, that the pages are worn, wrinkled and tear stained. I pray it helps you as it has helped me.
Psalm 51:1-4/7-12 1 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according to thy multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. 4 Against thee, thee only have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. 7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me: and I shall be whiter than snow. 8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. 9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. 11Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
Accept God’s grace, and Get Back Up!
