Live Like You Are Free
I spoke in my last blog about Jesus being the only one Worthy. It is because of that, we can be free. Free from things like fear, weakness, doubt and anxiety. Sometimes however, it seems we would rather stay in the known rather than step into the unknown that will set us free! There are several things that may be constraining you from being set free from those four words that I previously mentioned.
One thing that might be constraining you from being set free is comfort. We get so comfortable with our daily routine that we miss out on what exactly God has for us. If only we would step out in faith and trust Him, rather than getting stuck in our own comfort. Remaining wrapped up nice and tight in that cozy blanket of our daily routine might seem ideal; however, it is constraining us from seeing what else God may have in store for us if we would just come out from underneath that blanket of comfort. Never growing or maturing as God would have us to do. Never actually seeing what it is we are missing out on that God has for us. Alternately, we come to be so stuck in our mundane day to day life. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Right?
Well sorry to say, but the answer to that is wrong! God doesn’t want us to remain stuck. Though we are saved and on our way to heaven, even seemingly doing all the right things, God wants more for us. We may feel we are fine. Yes, we may be living our life going to church a couple of times a week and reading our daily Bible verses. We are consistent in saying that morning prayer. By doing those things, what are you actually doing for anyone else but yourself?
God wants us to be His disciples. Yes, we need to have people discipling us. That is what our Pastor does for us. In turn, we need to put ourselves out there, discipling a younger Christian in the Faith. Webster’s Dictionary defines disciple as not only a student, but a follower. One who applies what they have learned. So don’t just sit on what you are learning, be sure to step out of your comfort zone and teach it to others who are younger in their faith. Just as your teacher or pastor has taught you. That they in turn will grow and teach others who are younger in their faith. That is how God wants us to build His Kingdom.
Busyness is another thing that we seem to get caught up in that constrains us from being set free. We all are busy, right? I am now an empty nester; however, I still find myself busier than I care to mention. It is so unexplainable, but I feel it has become such a way of life for most of us. We don’t know how to slow down even when we are given the opportunity. We are constantly looking for the next thing to do. Our culture has made us feel that if we aren’t busy, then we are lazy. Well let me tell you, finding time to sit down and relax with Jesus is not considered being lazy. It should be considered a priority!
We may need to practice setting aside time to just be still and sit with Him. Maybe by prayer, maybe by reading His Word, or maybe by reading that daily devotional that has been sitting there collecting dust over time. Then, once you actually form that habit of sitting quietly with Him, even if just for 15 minutes, you will find it nearly impossible to get through your day without it. But it’s not going to happen if you continue to say, “I know what I need to do, I am going to start doing that.” Don’t just say it, do it! It is going to take a conscious effort on your part. Subsequently, it will become such a habit, just like grabbing that first cup of coffee in the morning. You will not want to start your day without first sitting with Him.
First things first, right? Then take what you have read about or heard about and share that with others. Again, step out of your own comfort zone, and use the power that the Holy Spirit has placed inside you to help grow other Christians. So go ahead, “Be all you can be”…… in Christ! It is because He is worthy, which allows us to be free from all that tries to hold us back!! Now go, live like you are free, because He is worthy!
